As was reported in last week’s Pioneer, Pine City went up against many of the top cross country teams from Minnesota and North Dakota at the MegaMeet Sept. 20 in Milaca. According to Coach Al Ringer, the weather was perfect, and the atmosphere was exciting with the thousands of runners taking part.
Here’s how the Dragons faired:
Coming in one right after the other, senior Kendra Motyl and freshman Megan Miesner each had their best times of the year, with 18:03 and 18:05 respectively. Senior Brietta Clementson finished in 19:33, and senior Laura Kleppe, 20:13.
“Due to some illnesses, our girls team was not complete; however, we see continued improvements,” said Coach Mary Anderson.
For the boys, routine Dragon frontrunner, sophomore Zach Swanson, finished with his personal best time of 17:06. He came in seventh out of 167 racers. “He ran a very smart race,” said Anderson.
Several other runners also ran their best times. Sophomore Dallas Hansen finished in his best time on the Stone’s Throw Golf Course, with a time of 18:25. Sophomore Joey Emslander finished in 19:59, a personal best. Also having a personal best was junior Ben Wirth, with a time of 20:03.
Sophomore Nick Bremer finished in 20:16, his best time on this course. Freshman Mitch Ringness and sophomore Jake Guttormson each finished with a time of 21:08. For Ringness, it was a personal best; for Guttormson, his best time so far this season.
Tuesday, the Dragons ran in the Becker Invite. Saturday, at 10 a.m., they will be at Duluth Central.
